On a cross shaft power press the crankshaft runs left to right across the frame, which allows a wider bed and keeps the ram loaded evenly across the full die area. Birson Forgings has manufactured presses in Ludhiana since 1985 and is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

What a cross shaft press is built for

A standard front-to-back shaft delivers load over a narrow span. Put a wide progressive die under it and the outer stations see a slightly tipped ram, uneven cutting clearance and burrs. The cross shaft layout spreads that load across the bed, so wide dies and long parts are cut evenly from the first station to the last.
