Our quality policy: to design and manufacture power presses that run accurately, safely and profitably for their full working life — by controlling every input, inspecting at every stage, and improving our process continually under our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.
A press is a capital machine. Our customers expect it to hold shut height and parallelism after years of continuous shifts, not just on the day of delivery. That is why our controls start at steel procurement — long before a frame is welded.
Seven Stages of Inspection
Each press moves through fixed inspection gates. A stage is not cleared until its checks are recorded and passed.
01. Raw material verification — Plate, shafts and castings are accepted only against mill test certificates. Chemical and mechanical properties are verified before the material enters production.
02. Frame fabrication and stress relieving — Welds are visually and dimensionally inspected, then the fabricated steel frame is stress-relieved to remove residual stresses and prevent distortion in service.
03. Machining and dimensional control — Critical surfaces are machined and checked for squareness, flatness and parallelism against drawing tolerances.
04. Crankshaft and gear inspection — Forged crankshafts are checked for hardness and runout. Gear profile, backlash and heat treatment records are verified before assembly.
05. Bought-out component check — Clutch, brake, motor, bearings, pneumatics and electricals are sourced from approved vendors and inspected on receipt against specification.
06. Assembly and alignment — Ram parallelism, slide clearance, shut height adjustment and brake stopping time are set and recorded by a dedicated inspector.
07. Load trial and despatch clearance — Every press is run under load and checked for noise, vibration, temperature and stroke consistency, then cleared for despatch with its inspection record.
What We Test — and Why It Matters to You
Ram parallelism — checked with dial gauge readings at four corners across the stroke. This gives even die contact, so you get longer die life and consistent part thickness.
Shut height accuracy — measured through the full adjustment range, so setups are repeatable and you need fewer trial strokes on a die change.
Brake stopping time — timed stop test from full speed. This underpins operator safety and lets you size guards and light curtains correctly.
Clutch engagement — repeated single-stroke and continuous cycling, so there is no double-stroking and single-stroke operation stays dependable.
Frame deflection — inspected under rated load trial, so the press delivers its rated tonnage without frame spring.
Bearing temperature and noise — monitored during the running trial to catch alignment or lubrication faults before despatch.
Electrical and pneumatic safety — continuity, earthing, dual-hand control and valve function tests, so installation and start-up are compliance-ready.
How We Keep Quality Consistent
Approved vendor base — clutch, brake, motor and bearing suppliers are evaluated and re-rated on delivered quality. We do not substitute components to cut cost.
Calibrated instruments — gauges, dial indicators and measuring instruments are calibrated on schedule, so readings are traceable and repeatable.
Trained inspectors — dedicated quality inspectors, independent of production, clear each stage. Operators are trained on the checks they own.
Documented traceability — material certificates, inspection records and test results are retained against the machine serial number for future reference.
Corrective action loop — any non-conformity, internal or from the field, is logged, root-caused and closed with a design or process change.
After-sales feedback — installation and service reports feed back into design review, so the next press is better than the last.
Quality Questions We Get Asked
Is Birson Forgings ISO certified? Yes. We operate an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system covering the design, manufacture and despatch of power presses and forging presses.
Can I witness the load trial before despatch? Yes. Customers and third-party inspection agencies are welcome to witness the pre-despatch trial at our Ludhiana works. Please arrange the visit in advance so the machine is scheduled on the test bay.
Do you supply presses to our own specification? Yes. Special purpose presses are built to customer drawings and inspected against an agreed inspection and test plan.
What warranty do you offer? A standard 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects, with spares and service support available well beyond the warranty period.
Are export shipments handled differently? Yes. Export machines receive additional pre-shipment protection — anti-rust coating, secure packing and sea-worthy crating — along with full documentation.
