Forged Beats Cast for Pressure Parts
Cast brass can hide porosity — microscopic voids that become leak paths under pressure. Hot stamping, which is forging brass at roughly 700 to 750 degrees Celsius on a friction screw press, compresses the metal solid, eliminates porosity, and aligns grain flow with the part shape. The result is denser, stronger, pressure-tight fittings.
The Process
Brass rod is cut to billets, induction heated, single-blow stamped in a closed die, trimmed, and then machined for threads. The factory cost difference versus casting is smaller than the retail quality gap suggests.
