Enter your cut perimeter, material thickness and grade, and it gives you the tons you need. It carries shear strength values for mild steel, stainless, brass and aluminium, so you don't have to look them up.

A 20 mm hole in 5 mm mild steel needs 11 tons. Eight holes on the same stroke need 88. That jump is what catches most buyers.

Two things the calculator can't see. A mechanical press makes rated tonnage only near bottom dead centre, so deep draws and progressive dies see far less force than the nameplate suggests. And a coined bend pulls 3–5× what an air bend does.
