What Is Fixable on a Used Press

Worn gibs, tired clutch linings, leaking pneumatics, missing guards, and motors or electricals — all repairable, so price them into your offer.

What Should Make You Walk Away

Frame cracks, especially at the throat inner corners of C-frames; a rewelded frame anywhere; crankshaft journal damage; and beds or bolsters machined undersize by past repairs. These cannot be economically fixed.

The 30-Minute Inspection

Run the press single-stroke and listen at bottom dead centre — a knock means big-end or bushing wear. Dial-indicate ram parallelism, check shut-height adjustment through its full range, and inspect the throat corners with a torch and mirror.

The Honest Math

A heavily worn 100 tonne used press plus rebuild often lands within 25 to 30 percent of a new machine — without warranty, spares support, or known history. Below that gap, used can win; above it, think hard.
