Why Frame Geometry Matters
A C-frame press is, structurally, a spring. Load it and the throat opens — the ram tips backward relative to the bed. At 30 tonnes on light gauge this is irrelevant. At 100 tonnes and above with a precision die, that angular deflection means punches enter dies off-axis, cutting clearance goes non-uniform, and one side of the die wears twice as fast. The H-frame's four-corner symmetry closes the force loop and keeps ram-to-bed parallelism under full load, protecting dies and part accuracy.
Applications
Deep drawing of utensils, LPG components, and automotive fuel tanks; heavy blanking of chassis brackets and tractor parts; compound and progressive die stamping; and straightening and assembly pressing.
Tonnage Guidance
Most shops move to an H-frame above 100 tonnes, or earlier when die parallelism tolerance is tight or deep drawing is involved. Birson builds H-frame presses up to 500 tonnes with options for pneumatic clutch and variable stroke.
